Adamantyl 1,3-dimethacrylate (MMA for short) is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor. The following is its nature, use, preparation and safety information:

- MMA is a commonly used monomer, which can be used to synthesize polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) resin. The resin has high transparency, good weather resistance and optical properties, so it is widely used in the manufacture of glasses, artificial stone, automobile lampshades, outdoor billboards and plastic liners.

The preparation of MMA is mainly carried out by an acetylene oxidation method or an isopropanol dehydration method. Acetylene oxidation method of acetylene and methanol through a series of reactions to produce methanol formate, and then react with methanol to get MMA. Isopropyl alcohol dehydration law is the dehydration reaction of isopropyl alcohol to produce acrolein, and then hydrogen cyanide and ammonium ethyl sulfate reaction to produce the corresponding cyanide, and finally the cyanide and methanol reaction to obtain MMA.
